Recently another model maker was looking for some models for the old TV series Battlestar Galactica and another model maker posted a link to the online warhouse and it had a mother load to free models. Everything from buildinds to tanks, planes etc. I thought that maybe BZII model makers could use this resource for use in BZII modders. Skectup 2016 has a 3ds exporter so I would imagine models can be imported into other modeling software to modify and convert the 3ds models to XSI. Anybody out there have any experience with it can post more information. I'll also do some basic work in trying to convert some models using Caligari Truespace. Happy holidays to all btw. Ed :ymparty:

Sketechup 2016 can export 3DS, OBJ, VRML.

One very cool feature is that models can be directly downloaded into Sketchup from the 3d warehouse after starting the software. Does anyone know if animation is supported in Sketchup?

Update: I uploaded my first model to the 3d warehouse. I exported the original out of Truespace as a 3ds model imported it into Sketchup 2016 and uploaded it as skp model file to the warehouse as a public model. I'm just getting started on this project but do plan to upload more models once I figure out a way make converting them back to BZII XSI models doable. Other modders hopefully will be able to use Sketchup to directly download the models into the software itself. I don't know just yet of a practical way to get the models converted back to XSI except perhaps by exporting them out of sketchup as 3ds or obj model format to 3d Exploration, Max, Gmax, Truespace or Blender? Don't know about animated models at this point.

I could use a few people willing to install Sketchup and help iron out the work flow steps needed to get models working in BZII. Ed....

Well, uploaded my first of several test models to the 3d warehouse. It's a couple of aircraft and a Assault tank made in Truespace exported as 3ds imported into Sketchup 2016 and uploaded to their' site.

Interested parties can visit the site and do a search for BZII to find my models. I plan to upload more models for other modders. You can directly download it into Sketchup and export them as 3ds to other modeling software to prep them for BZII. The model part names name's need to be renamed from mesh whatever as per how BZII needs them named.
