as i've said before on the other forum, i think it would be a good thing to have some redundancy in matchmaking servers spread around the globe that use different methods on different servers so that if one disappears due to death/finances/moving/apathy/whatever, all it would have to do is skip to the next one in the prioritized list in GamePrefs/LocalPrefs.

Basically, eliminating a single pint of failure.

MasterServerAddress1 = "masterserver2.raknet.com"
MasterServerAddress2="gamelist.kebbz.com"
MasterServerAddress3 = "masterserver.Vearie.com"
MasterServerAddress4="matchmaking.Commando.com"
MasterServerAddress5 = "master.OM.com"
MasterServerAddress6="gamelist.Squirrel.com"

To windows XP users: Muffin and I have solved the crashing on windows XP.
No need for you to do anything extra, it'll just work now.

Raknet is down yet again ... surprise surprise :shock: Seems to average going down for 1 or 2 days every week (before it was once every couple of months). I will bump this post so that people are aware of this backup solution, thanks to Vearie for the script and to Kebbz for hosting the matchmaking server. =D>

Out of curiosity, is what is kebbz doing that allows the following to work?
http://gamelist.kebbz.com/testServer?__gameId=BZ2

my site works if I specify /testServer.php?, but when I remove the .exe extension, it gives a 404. I suspect this is why bz2 doesn't work.

I'm trying to test hosting on different ports, I'm using 8081, as it isn't blocked by my ISP. I can browse my php without issue, as long as I append .php to the script name.

My guess is that it has to do with your webserver not recognizing 'testserver' as executable (but possibly thinking it's a directory), especially if the file is hosted on a windows file system. (on a linux filesystem, the files use an executable bit set via chmod).

You might find a way to do what you want if you look at your webserver's documentation or do some google searches.

Hello everybody, it seems some good job has been made here, thanks!

I am going to check these files, then I'll check if I can host a kind of alternative thing.
Is this an issue regarding 1.2 or 1.3? Or maybe both versions?

ps: Forgive me for my lack of knowledge regarding this, I am just discovering everything again since I stopped playing a few years ago ;-)

Raknet is up currently, so there is no need atm. Raknet replaced Gamespy as the gamelisting service and is available in the latest BZ2 patch/update (1.3.6.5), which can be found here: http://matesfamily.org/bz2/index.html

Raknet is down FYI, so use the OP in this thread to use the kebbz/vearie net solution.

Confirmed, port 17770 UDP (TCP not needed) to host games via this matchmaking workaround. People will get a natneg error when joining unless this port is forwarded.
