Digital gold rush is really spiking the prices for the pickaxes, shovels and pans (GPUs,RAM,CPUs) so going custom can be just as expensive or more expensive. In certain situations it's actually cheaper to buy a great laptop or desktop prebuilt than building it yourself.

As for the Laptop vs Desktop discussion:

Nowadays there is no REAL difference between Laptop and Desktop components in terms of the actual component. They are designed differently for Power consumption and heat management but in terms of raw performance they are equal.

If you 1-Slot SLI High end GPUs on a desktop and close the case WITHOUT Liquid cooling and run them at max. You will suffer the same issues a laptop has.

The only time Desktops truly out shine laptops is when you start doing shit like this or some type of OCing or Liquid cooling:

BUT as people have stated already. Laptops have Mobility which is what Sent seems to need.

As for laptops this is a really good price Sent: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7 ... ator&psc=1

Legal Windows:
Price: $100
CPU: https://ark.intel.com/products/97185/In ... o-3_80-GHz
Price: $378.00
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060-6GB
Price: $250
RAM: 16gb
Price: $120
SSD 256gb
price: $50

Total: $898 (Could add an extra 50-60 dollars for everything else)

comes SUPER close to build cost although some of my estimates are based on the cheapest components I saw meaning this laptop could be worth more.

I do appreciate you guys' feedback, input, and suggestions. I do really need a laptop more than a desktop, and this current AMD shit laptop I have is not cutting it. I need a laptop for gaming, and doing things on the go, like timelapse videos, video editing, music editing and watching porn (joke). My current laptop I purchased in 2016 actually started to lag in Starcraft II, and I've tried all possible graphic card configurations. I updated the drivers, still no go, and I'm getting sick of it. If it does that in SC2, then I'm sure bz2 Redux will be far worse (assuming). As for desktops, I just can't see myself doing stationary computing. I'd like to be at a coffee shop, outdoors, etc., using a computer.

Juggs, I've never heard of laptops performing less than desktops provided they have equivalent components. I will have to check that one.

Dom, I like how you broke it down with the price. It does makes sense.

I think if I had the money, I would get one of those high-end laptops that Sly linked me up to, but for now it boils down to the Acer laptop.

Edit 1: Btw, that website: xoticpc.com has really nice laptops.

I was going to provide links to Sly, but I'm sure he knows how to research google. I wont get into the fact that I was a component level electronic technician for many years, most likely before Sly was born. Calling my point dumb shows your inability to get over your ego, and consider differing viewpoints other than your own.

Laptops have power constraints on components to limit the amount of heat produced, because laptops are compact and do suffer from inadequate airflow to help keep power hungry components within thermal tolerance.

Look up ANY benchmark comparing video cards and processors (mobile version vs desktop) and see there is reduced performance with laptop components due to these power constraints (constrained to limit the amount of heat produced).

@Sly, you obviously let your ego motivate your reply before thinking through, although you do not respect me, I do have a lot more real world experience in both electronics and computers in general.

peace out.

Technology has improved quite a lot over the past 25 years or so, Juggs - heck, even in the past 3 or 4 years. Laptops that currently cost the same as I paid for my laptop 3-4 years ago have almost double the processing and graphical power. The difference between laptop and desktop for straightforward functionality in today's market is so insignificant with modern technology that it is not worth even debating. Laptops are powerful enough now that they can handle desktop-grade graphics cards and perform at similar levels as desktops. Sly is right, even if that seems to have offended you lol

Here is a comparison for you. "laptop-grade" 1080 performance should be around +-10% of a non overclocked desktop GTX 1080, according to this link.

Not offended at all, he was the one offended calling all my points dumb and being hostile toward anyone with differing viewpoints. Just stating facts Blade. Also your link proves my point, the GTX 1080 desktop vs mobile does in fact perform a bit better overall (albeit alot closer than it used to be). I admit, the performance gap between laptops and PCs have decreased over the years as components run on less voltage with each new generation, but there is still a difference. Seeing you guys know very little about electronics, or even bother to research my points, I'll provide a few links if you care to read through:

As I stated earlier, its purely based on heat management and power consumption capabilities. Yes Desktops out shine laptops tremendously when it comes to scalability but if we compare today's base to base models with no OCing and liquid cooling playing the latest video games on max settings. Will they not be equal in performance? With the exception that the laptop owner can play it in the house, coffee shop or titty bar.

I always thought.

Desktops = scalability
Laptops = mobility

The thing I love about the internet is its one of the few remaining places where you can just speak your mind. If you say something that I find dumb, I will call it DUMB. Why should I have to care about your feelings. Why don't you just back up your arguments instead and prove me wrong, dur. In any case, you remind me of an argument I had with Xohm 5 or so years ago. He was ragging on GF for having a small form factor build, saying that there is no way for it to be powerful enough, but he was dead wrong. People seem to just learn about computers at one point in time and their knowledge is just solidified to that period. Also, love the logical fallacy Argument From Age. In any case, if you want me to be more sensitive, then I will. I am sorry for making my arguments out to be so blunt and brutal. I will control it and make it more PC next time.

Why do you nerds need good computers to play an old ass game like bz2? Children nowadays.
