Ok, so I know BZII is kind of flakey as far as aircraft class is concerned, but is there an odf setting to keep the craft from hopping off into la la land after the pilot hops out to rescue? Thx, Edgrr. PS: I have my aircraft behaving reasonably well but like everybody already knows the class itself needs more tweaking.

Aircraftclass units are capable of deploying and undeploying; this is how they land. Aircraft in the air have a constant impulse, and will keep moving the defined speed even while there's no pilot in them. Aircraft on the ground need to take off before they can move, so order them to rescue them when they're landed.

Hmm? Apparently one hack to keep the unit from hopping off is to set the cruise speed to 0; the craft still tries to deploy and undeploy after the pilot hops out, but it just goes up and down in place. If you get under it will pickup you up. The cruise speed set to 0 also makes it a hover type aircraft which is useful for observing the battlefield or targeting the enemy from a safe distant; the AI is to undefined fro the class to use these settings to attack target but I need test the settings to get more feedback about how the AI behaves. :ymparty:

The AI seem to work well when following the leader, and attack in a hover mode similar to how a helicopter can fire weapons stand off style.

Setting the cruise speed to 0 seems prefect for pilot rescue as when given the order to pickup the aircraft positions itself directly over the pilot quite literally drops right down on the pilot for an instant pickup. :ymparty:

Good that for a pickup instead of for having a seat.

I found some aircraft from a mod called X-mod. The odfs needs some tweaking to make them more stable though. Morph class is also very useful for it's combat/assault setting. One helicopter model uses 2 different altitude heights for both modes. Apparently, aircraft can do loops but the controls on aircraft are absolutely horrible. Who ever created the aircraft class for BZII is totally retarded as the physics employed make it almost useless to modders.

BZ2's engine calculates almost everything in 2D. It's different to get anything approaching 6DOF movement when your calculations are being done in the XY planar space.

Yep, as you quoted again they must have been retarded to even include aircraft to begin with, and even more retarded to attempt to fix the original aircraft class itself. What's "6DOF" btw?

I don't follow. Whoever created it is retarded because it doesn't work, but more retarded for trying in the first place? The aircraft class isn't completely broken; it's not perfect but it does function. The Cerberi Triton handles surprisingly well, for example.

6DOF stands for six degrees of freedom, which means movement and rotation in each of the XY, XZ and YZ planes.

The Cerberi Triton's not an aircraft either?

FYI, Mates calls aircraft a second or third class unit; hence a retarded class that functions but has no real purpose or business in BZII? :-?

Not the Triton, sorry, my mistake - the Talon. That uses aircraftclass in some versions of FE, and if I remember correctly acted as the base for your fighter ODFs for somet ime.

Aircrafts are is third class (aircraft class is a third class class...) because the base game doesn't use them. They're used exclusively by modders and the average player will never encounter one. Nathan hasn't done anything further with them, and doesn't look likely to any time soon, because they're not worth the effort when there are more useful changes that can be made to parts of the game that see more than occasional use.
