IMPORTANT: This only restores functionality to 1.3 Public Beta 6. The latest Pubic Alpha, which already restores matchmaking, can be installed as follows: Download the base installer here, and install over a new clean BZ2 installation. Then check the BZ2 forum for the latest sub-build (BZ2 188.8.131.52a130g as of this edit), download and extract the zip folder into the folder where you installed the new Public Alpha. If you do NOT wish to play on the Public Alpha at the moment, or still run windows XP, read below.
BZ2 Public Beta 6 Masterserver: gamelist.kebbz.com masterserver2.raknet.com is permanently down.
Open @BZ2ROOT/addon/config/localprefs.ini and add this line under [UserPrefs]: MasterServerAddress="gamelist.kebbz.com" @BZ2ROOT is where you installed Battlezone II.
If you don't understand what this means, click the "Show" button below for step-by-step instructions.
To find Battlezone II games online through Raknet follow the instructions below: IMPORTANT: Before following this guide, be sure you have the latest Public Beta BZ2 patch installed!
Step 1: Locate your Battlezone II root directory. This is the folder you installed BZ2 in. It should look something like this:
It is commonly found in: c:\Battlezone II c:\Program Files\Battlezone II c:\Program Files (x86)\Battlezone II c:\Battlezone 2 c:\Program Files\Battlezone 2 c:\Program Files (x86)\Battlezone 2
Step 2: Once in the BZ2 folder, double click the "addon" folder, then the "config" folder inside of the addon folder.
Step 3: You should see a file called "LocalPrefs" or "LocalPrefs.ini". The folder should look like this:
Open this file. You may be asked by windows what to open it with, if this happens, choose "Notepad".
Step 4: Under [UserPrefs] in notepad, add this text: MasterServerAddress="gamelist.kebbz.com" After editting, it should look like this:
Once your LocalPrefs.ini file has the same text as in that screenshot, you can save it by closing the notepad window and clicking "Yes" or "Save". If you get "Accees Denied" error, Click Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click Notepad, and click Run as administrator, then drag the LocalPrefs file onto notepad with your mouse.
Now you should be able to open Battlezone II able to see and host online multiplayer games again.
KNOWN ISSUES You don't always get all the servers on the first refresh. This has been greatly reduced via longer timeout times. Usually you should get all the servers, but if you see no games do a 2nd refresh.
